Welcome to the Walton Le Dale Welsh Don League.

In season 2008/09, Walton Le Dale Welsh Don League consisted of 14 teams and had two Divisions.

Both divisions contained seven teams, with each team playing each other three times throughout the season, making eighteen fixtures in total for each team.

Each fixture consisted of five games, with the winning team of each game receiving one point. The team winning the most games in the fixture also received an additional two bonus win points.

Included in each fixture was a Bill Bullen Trophy game, which was also played on a League basis. This game was to have been the final game played on the night (6th game).

Any two players from each team could represent their team in the Bill Bullen League, it did not have to be the same two players each fixture.

At the end of the season, the top two teams in each Division of the Bill Bullen League contested the semi final stage, with the winner of Division 'A' playing the runner up of Division 'B' and the winner of Division 'B' playing the runner up of Division 'A'.

The format for season 2009/10 has been reviewed, proposals put forward to the A.G.M. can be seen below:

  1. Due to the decline in the number of teams competing in the league (there are now 13 as Trades Hall and George IV have resigned, a new team, White Bull of Walton Le Dale has joined), it was proposed that the League runs with only one division.
Each team in the division would play each other team twice, giving 26 fixtures in total for each team inclusive of two byes, (5 weeks longer than last season).

    This proposal was passed.

  2. If proposal #1 passed.
Prizes to be awarded to the teams that finish in the top four positions in the division.
This proposal will be re-discussed at a later date.

  3. If proposal #1 passed, cease running the Supplementary Cup.
This was due to the length the season would run, also, if there is only one division there should only be one cup.
    This proposal was passed.

  4. If proposal #1 passed, cease running the Bill Bullen Trophy on a League basis.
The proposal was to run the Bill Bullen Trophy in its entirety on Finals Night (1 game only in all rounds).
This was proposed mainly due to Finals Night being severely depleted.
There would be no Supplementary Cup Final or Champion of Champions Final.

    This proposal was unanimously defeated.

The Bill Bullen Trophy will continue to run alongside League Fixtures (as last season).
Teams were asked to come up with ideas on how to fill the voids left on Finals Night due to there not being a Supplementary Cup Final or Champion of Champions play-off.

  5. Reformat the Doubles Competition.
The proposal was to accept the first 32 paying entries, with the 32 entries being drawn into four groups of eight, playing 2 rounds down to two pairs at a venue to be confirmed on a Thursday night. The eight qualifying pairs would then play a further 2 rounds down to two pairs at a venue to be confirmed on the following Thursday.
This proposal was passed (5 venues to be put forward at the next meeting).
